Shiva Trilogy: The Immortals of Meluha(Review)

I read the first book of ‘Shiva trilogy’ and it was amazing. I know reviewing a book just like that could get my articles plagued by the Amishverse fanbase. So I should tell that this is the perspective of a guy who just read the first book and did this reviewing for ‘Fun’. (SPOILER WARNING)

Here I am gonna list my opinions into two categories, the good and the bad.

The Bad Aspects:

1.The old school Characters: The character’s personality was that which is expected from a regular old story. The protagonist being bold and perfect while, his love interest also being a fighter(unlike every other female character in the story)hates him .If you counter that they tried to follow the myths, let it be known that in the myths Daksha hated Shiva.

2.More reference towards the social and cultural life than myths: When I bought the book, I expected it to be driven by the myths. Instead the book merges three worlds: Taking the characters from the Hindu mythology, putting them into the later Vedic period on the geographical location of the Indus Valley civilization. The book informed me wonderfully about the kingdoms, social life etc. ,but for me it wasn’t backed enough by mythology. Maybe this was because I expected something like the Percy Jackson world. I am not saying this turn was bad. It was just what I had not expected .

3.The breakers in the narration: The narration in the beginning was a little poor . They had these symbols which didn’t allow me to really dive into the story. This issue was only faced in the beginning, when they appeared too much. By the middle they were used the perfect amount needed.

The breakers

The Good Aspects:

  1. Philosophies: The factor that really makes Amish’s writing golden is the philosophies. They are so so good, I just can’t express them. They are too deep and well woven for me to break down.

2.The end twist: How the book ended, revealing the true size of the universe just blew me away. Amish really did make us feel like when we thought our house is the world and then ,we see the outside for the first time.

3.Parvateshwar: My favorite character in the book was Paravateshwar. At first he seemed like a poorly written character meant to be the bully. But soon after seeing things from his perspective ,I learned that he was in fact the most developed.

4.Shiva’s character development: How Shiva learned to respect Sati was just amazing. It is a philosophy so good ,I have to give it a whole point.

5. Faults in the characters: The Netflix show ‘Decoupled’ got into a controversy for showing toxic characters. I believe that this is just the personalities of characters ,which depict real life. I am glad Amish had the protagonist having bad habits, like smoking Marijunana etc.

Now would I recommended ‘The Immortals of Meluha’? Of course ,everything has bad and good aspects. In fact , this book is up there with ‘The Room on the Roof’ for me(nearly in the 1st tier). I don’t mean to hurt anybody’s sentiments, this is just my opinion.
