Dedicated to all the Martyrs

“Let us all be brave enough to die the death of a martyr, but let no one lust for martyrdom.” — Mahatma Gandhi

For the first time since its creation, the machine jarred to life.

“Go! Go!” Naman yelled at the workers.

Everybody took their positions. The machine turbines whirred violently. The air around me grew uncomfortably warm as the machine overheated .Naman’s eyes glittered with excitement.

But there was danger too; fractures were starting to appear in the lab walls. The place would soon be on the verge of collapsing. “Where are you lost?!”Naman barked at me.

I, who had been staring at the scene jolted back to reality. I turned the knobs of the engine executer and started working on the teleportation system .I knew what was about to happen.

I crouched down below my desk as a light of magenta too painful to look at, filled the room which was followed by a sizzling sound as the building circuit blew up from over use of electricity and the place went dark.

Nobody moved a muscle until; Naman soon found an emergency torch from his desk.

The light flickered on providing a clear path to the teleportation machine which looked more ghostly and deadly than ever.

The machine was ginormous, its wires ran all over the place like the veins of a creature, connecting to a opaque box big enough to hold a dozen humans made of Borosilicate glass(I bet even metal fears this ) composed of hundreds of monitors ,motors and whatnot.

As Naman started to cross the room to inspect the machine with three other scientists I joined him, it would be better to know what may kill me than being in the dark about it.

Even with the light of just a torch the machine gleamed and shined as it was thoroughly cleaned everyday though it was never used until today.

Naman was almost skipping towards the machine; he was about to open the doors of the machine’s box when one of the scientists of the going party whispered.

“Sir, gloves!”

Naman clearly annoyed, pulled on a pair of nitrile gloves, muttering something about unnecessary precautions.

Smoke escaped the capsule as Naman opened the door. Naman bent down, picked up and sniffed what looked like a charred rubber piece.

Naman concluded “Its meat, chicken meat to be exact.”

Everybody stared at Naman in disbelief. Finally I got the urge to speak up “Uhh…what?”

“We’ve done it guys” Naman announced ignoring me, tears of happiness visible on his face. “Almost 91 years it took us but we did it. We brought meat from another planet!!!”
